Instruction in Gang Violence Prevention
A-1650………Assemblymen Barnes and Diegnan
Requires each board of education to offer elementary school students instruction in gang violence prevention and instruction in ways to avoid membership in gangs.
- The instruction will take place as part of the school district’s implementation of Core Curriculum Content Standards in Health and Physical Education
- The Department of Education will provide school districts with sample materials to support implementation of the instruction
CeaseFire Pilot Program

Appropriates $4,000,000 to the Division of Family Health Services in the Department of Health to initiate a NJ CeaseFire Pilot Program in Newark, Camden and Trenton.
- Goal of program is to reduce violence in all forms in targeted ceasefire zones. For example, all shootings within the community are countered with rapid, coordinated and sustained responses police, residents and clergy.
- This bill is modeled on the CeaseFire program presently operating in 15 Chicago neighborhoods.
- CeaseFire is a partnership between community based organizations, clergy, law enforcement, business and civic leaders.
