MUNICIPAL LEADERS SPEAK ON TRANSPORTATION
FUNDING PRIORITIES

Today in Trenton, League of Municipalities’ President, Mayor Brian Wahler of Piscataway, and League Past President, Mayor Tim McDonough, will appear before the Senate Transportation Committee to discuss the need for increased assistance for local roads and bridges.

Mayor Wahler, who was recently elected to lead the municipal association for the next twelve months, and Mayor McDonough, who also Chairs the League’s Transportation Trust Fund Review Committee, will note the importance of local and county roads and bridges to our State’s people and economy.

The State Department of Transportation (DOT) reports that New Jersey's municipalities are responsible for 64% (28,539 center line road miles) of our roads. County governments are responsible for another 22% (6,649 center line road miles). Together, local governments are responsible for 39% of our bridges. Local roadways and bridges carry about 55% of all traffic.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10:30 A.M., in Committee Room 10, on the 3rd Floor of the State House Annex.
