Posted on: January 19, 2024[ARCHIVED] Governor Signs Liquor License and Craft Brewery Legislation
On Tuesday, January 16, Governor Murphy signed into law S-4265/A-5915, now P.L. 2023, c. 290, changing liquor license laws to include the limited transfer of inactive licenses, issuance of special liquor licenses for shopping malls, relaxation of certain craft brewery restrictions, and creation of a new farm-brewery license. The League thanks the sponsors (Senators Gopal, Sarlo, Singleton, Greenstein and Assembly representatives Calabrese, Danielsen, and McKeon) for taking steps to reform New Jersey’s antiquated liquor license laws.
The Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) has projected an estimated 1,356 inactive licenses will become available for transfer, an approximately 15% increase in licenses from the current 8,905 active retail consumption licenses in the state.
Our January 5 alert provides a detailed breakdown of the new law. At this time, we await further guidance from the Division of ABC on the new requirements and procedures for the transfer of inactive licenses.
