On March 9 Governor Murphy signed into law S-3595/A-5177, which changes certain primary election deadlines. The new law took effect immediately.
The deadlines changed include the following:
- Submission by the Municipal Clerk to the County Clerk of suggested polling locations has changed from April 1 to 74 days prior to the primary election.
- Notice of Public Offices to be filed at the election submitted by the Municipal Clerk to the County Clerk changes from 57 days prior to the primary election to 71 days prior to the primary election.
- The Drawing of Ballot positions changes from 54 days prior to the primary election to 61 days prior to the primary election. The drawing still must be held at 3:00 p.m.
- Last day for the County Board to make a division of an election district changes from 75 days prior to the primary election to 82 days prior to the primary election.
- A copy for the printer of the contents of official ballots must be ready by the County Clerk changes from 45 days prior to the primary election to 60 days prior to the primary election and 64 days prior to the general election. Eliminates the 50-day prior deadline in years of a federal primary election.
- The chair of the political party of each county files with municipal clerks the committeemen to be elected at the primary election to the county committee changes from April 1 to 74 days prior to the primary election.
