This week, Governor Murphy signed A-4524/S-2709, now P.L.2023, c.22, which permits the appointment of additional alternate deputy registrars. The League supports this legislation because is especially necessary in municipalities that host hospitals and issue many birth and death certificates.
Under the new law the municipal governing body may permit the local registrar to appoint more than two alternate deputy registrars if the local register determines that the appointments are necessary for the office to function efficiently and to provide quality service to the public. The local registrar must file a copy of an approved resolution with the State Registrar to allow for appropriate oversight.
We encourage you to share this information with your municipal professional.
