[ARCHIVED] NJCCIC Updated Ransomware Guide Notice

On May 23, The New Jersey Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Cell (NJCCIC) released an updated version of the #StopRansomware Guide, jointly published by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the National Security Agency (NSA), and the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC). The guide has been revised to address the evolving tactics and techniques employed by ransomware actors since its initial release in 2020.

In recent years, the threat of ransomware attacks has become more pervasive, necessitating stronger cybersecurity measures. The updated #StopRansomware Guide is an invaluable resource that incorporates lessons learned from the past two years and provides additional recommended actions, resources, and tools to enhance its relevancy and effectiveness. By following the best practices outlined in the guide, municipalities can detect, prevent, respond to, and recover from ransomware incidents. It offers step-by-step approaches to tackle potential attacks and serves as a comprehensive resource for all entities.

The League strongly urges all municipal officials to review the updated #StopRansomware Guide to fortify their facilities, protect personnel, and secure the data of their constituents from the devastating impacts of ransomware and data exfiltration. To access the latest resources and learn effective strategies for stopping ransomware, please visit the official website at stopransomware.gov.

The development of this joint guide was made possible through the Joint Ransomware Task Force (JRTF), a collaborative effort between various agencies aimed at reducing the prevalence and impact of ransomware attacks. Established by Congress in 2022, the JRTF is co-chaired by CISA and the FBI. For additional information about the JRTF, we encourage you to visit CISA's newly launched Joint Ransomware Task Force webpage.
