[ARCHIVED] 2023 New Jersey Subdivision Annual Opioid Abatement Report

Last week, the New Jersey Department of Human Services posted the Subdivision Annual Opioid Abatement Report and the State Annual Opioid Abatement Report. The League reviewed the subdivision report. At this time, a majority of municipalities have yet to disburse funds. For those who have or are planning to disburse the funds, t fall into the following categories:

  • Cops in Schools Program
  • Law Enforcement Against Drugs (LEAD) program
  • Municipal Alliances
  • Narcan purchases and training
  • Community awareness events like National Night Out 
  • Harm Reduction Programs
  • Narcotics Detection Dog Training
  • Straight to Treatment Programs 
  • Improve ability to access rehabilitation services by creating identification card
  • Unwanted Medication Disposal
  • Counseling Services. 

As a reminder, the terms of the settlement requires that the funds go towards the following activities: 

  • Treating opioid use disorder (OUD)
  • Supporting people in treatment and recovery
  • Providing connections to care
  • Addressing the needs of justice involved persons
  • Addressing the needs of pregnant or parenting people who use drugs and their families
  • Preventing over-prescribing and ensuring the appropriate prescription of opioids by medical professional
  • Preventing problematic use of opioids
  • Preventing overdose deaths and harms through harm reduction strategies
  • Other goals such as supporting first responders, training, and cross-system collaborative efforts, and/or research
