On Monday, September 23, the Assembly Oversight, Reform, and Federal Relations Committee received testimony from invited speakers, including the League, to discuss the issue of municipalities’ implementation of State cannabis laws and regulations.
Providing testimony on behalf of the League was Clinton Town Mayor and League Past President, Janice Kovach, along with League Associate General Counsel, Frank Marshall. The Committee also heard testimony from Hope Twp. Mayor and NJLM Past President Timothy McDonough, representing the NJ Conference of Mayors along with the Conference’s Executive Director Amanda De Palma, in addition to various representatives of the cannabis industry.
The League presented testimony outlining some of the concerns municipalities have encountered with the rollout of the State’s legalized cannabis laws, including issues with the collection of municipal taxes, and explained the need for continued flexibility in municipal applications processes and licensing. The purpose of the Committee’s hearing was to help legislators gather information on how to possibly improve the State’s cannabis laws.
The League would like to thank Committee Chair Assemblyman Reginald Watkins, along with the rest of the Committee for inviting the League to provide testimony.
