Update on SHBP Rate Renewal

Pension & Health Benefits Posted on August 13, 2025

As we reported last week, both the State members and the Public Employee members of the Plan Design Committee submitted their proposals to AON (actuary) to achieve $100 million in recurring savings during the first six months of the Plan Year 2026. It has been reported that AON will notify the members around August 15 how much, if any, their proposals will save. It is important to note that, per language in the State budget, the anticipated savings would be realized for the State system, not the Local system. However, any changes made to the State system would likely influence changes made to the Local system as well.

Once AON provides potential savings, if any, for the proposals, the State Health Benefits Plan Design Committee must come to an agreement on reaching $100 million in savings by September 30.
