Community is Key

Improving health and wellness, reducing inequities in New Jersey


Across New Jersey, mayors are leading efforts to create healthier communities for their residents. Community is key. During the height of the pandemic, and beyond, municipal leaders saw the value of strong community partnerships firsthand.

The New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute supports mayors in their local efforts through the Quality Institute’s Mayors Wellness Campaign (MWC), created in 2006 in partnership with the New Jersey State League of Municipalities. Community is at the center of all MWC programs, from community walks and bike rides to supporting older adults living alone.

Navigating a tightening health insurance market and skyrocketing premiums


When the national actuarial firm AON's report on future healthcare costs for U.S. employers in 2023 projected a 6.5% increase-more than double from 2021 to 2022-employers across the country took notice, but no alarm bell's were raised.


The fact that we have been in a hard insurance market is not new, with increases averaging 2% to 5% annually over the past decade. Healthcare costs have significantly outpaced other increases in the American economy, including the Consumer Price Index, but the situation has only recently become more critical.
