$200 Million Allocation for State Health Benefits Cut from FY2024 Budget

The proposed allocation of $200 million to counteract the rising healthcare costs for public employees failed to be included in the Fiscal Year 2024 Budget as first proposed by Governor Murphy in his Budget Address.

Governor Signs Bill Assisting First-Generation Homebuyers

This week, Governor Murphy signed into law S-3780. The new law provides down payment assistance and provides tax credits to developers that commit to construct or reconstruct housing for certain low to moderate income households.

Governor Signs 20 and Out Legislation

Governor Murphy signed legislation that would permit police and fire employees to retire after 20 years of service, regardless of age, with a retirement benefit of 50% of final compensation.

New Law Allows AG to Appoint Not-Yet-Trained Officer in Charge

Governor Murphy signed S-3943, now P.L.2023, c.94, allowing the Attorney General to appoint the Officer in Charge when superseding certain law enforcement agencies.

New Law Requires Sellers and Landlords Provide Notice of Flooding

Governor Phil Murphy has signed S-3110/A-4783, now P.L.2023, c.93, which requires sellers of property and landlords to make certain notifications regarding flooding.

Governor Signs Bill Establishing Urban Preservation Program

Governor Murphy has signed A-5596/S-3991 establishing the Urban Preservation Program to promote investments in rehabilitation and reconstruction projects dedicated to preserving affordable housing in urban areas.

Lunch & Learn: DEP - Extreme Heat Resilience Action Plan

On Wednesday, July 26, at noon, the League will be holding a Lunch and Learn with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) on its Extreme Heat Resilience Action Plan.

DEP’s Office of Climate Resilience (OCR) supports the NJ Interagency Council on Climate Resilience’s (IAC) action plan. The New Jersey IAC is currently developing an Extreme Heat Resilience Action Plan and would like to increase engagement of elected officials in the process. The session will focus on priorities and needs of heat-impacted, at-risk communities. Guest speaker is Nathaly Agosto Filion, Deputy Chief Climate Resilience Officer. Spotted Lanternfly Grant Program for Counties and Municipalities 

The NJ Department of Agriculture has announced the availability of grant money to assist counties and municipalities slow the spread and reduce spotted lanternfly populations across the state.
