Lunch & Learn: DEP – Extreme Heat Resilience Action Plan
On Wednesday, July 26, at noon, the League will hold a Lunch and Learn with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) on its Extreme Heat Resilience Action Plan.

The New Jersey IAC is currently developing an Extreme Heat Resilience Action Plan and would like to increase engagement of municipal officials in the process. The session will focus on priorities and needs of heat-impacted, at-risk communities. Guest speakers are Nick Angarone, Chief Climate Resilience Officer, and Nathaly Agosto Filion, Deputy Chief Climate Resilience Officer. Please RSVP if you are interested in attending.
Two Initiatives from the League of Municipalities Education Foundation
We would like to take this opportunity to call your attention to two initiatives from the New Jersey League of Municipalities Education Foundation (NJLMEF).
Mental Health Grant Funding Opportunity
The first is a mental health grant opportunity in partnership with the Walmart Foundation, a generous partner to the Education Foundation and the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute's Mayors Wellness Campaign (MWC). The Mayors Wellness Campaign Mental Health Initiative will help communities working to address local mental health needs.
New Jersey municipalities that are part of the MWC are invited to submit proposals for programs or initiatives developing or expanding local programming to address mental health, substance use, and/or stigma. Funding amounts are $10,000, $15,000, or $25,000, and there will be up to 15 awards totaling $127,500 from Walmart.
The MWC encourages applicants to use the MWC Mental Health Toolkit, which provides valuable examples of community programming options. There will be a technical assistance webinar on July 12, 2023, at 10 a.m., which requires advance registration.
Grants are due July 31, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. Municipalities unsure of their MWC status, wishing to sign up, or seeking more information can reach out to the Quality Institute’s Director of Community Health, Julie DeSimone, at firstname.lastname@example.org for assistance.
Local Leaders Discuss Climate Resilience
The NJLM Educational Foundation is hosting an inaugural Climate Resilience Roundtable on August 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Warren County Community College.
The Roundtable aims to address critical topics such as hazard mitigation, stormwater management, solar power, and offshore wind energy.
By bringing together municipal leaders and community members, the foundation seeks to inform lasting changes in municipalities’ policies to help safeguard future generations against the escalating environmental crisis.
The Climate Resilience Roundtable serves as a platform to promote resilience, foster knowledge exchange, and collectively work toward a more sustainable and resilient future. We will provide a list of programs and speakers.
Attendance is free, but registration is required. Please RSVP by August 4
