Governor Signs Advanced Clean Cars Proposal 

Governor Murphy signed the Advanced Clean Car Proposal requiring all new light-duty vehicle sales to be zero-emission vehicles by 2035.

Governor Declares Weather-Related State of Emergency

Sunday, July 16, Governor Phil Murphy declared a State of Emergency and issued Executive Order 336 due to severe storms experienced throughout the state.

Governor Signs General Election Bills

On Thursday, despite the League’s urging to conditionally veto this measure, Governor Murphy signed A-5175/SCS-3519, which makes changes to General Election timelines.

Lunch & Learn: NJDEP – Extreme Heat Resilience Action Plan

On Wednesday, July 26, at noon, the League will be holding a Lunch and Learn with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) on its Extreme Heat Resilience Action Plan.

NJDEP’s Office of Climate Resilience (OCR) supports the NJ Interagency Council on Climate Resilience’s (IAC) action plan. The New Jersey IAC is currently developing an Extreme Heat Resilience Action Plan and would like to increase engagement of municipal officials in the process. The session will focus on priorities and needs of heat-impacted, at-risk communities. Guest speakers are Nick Angarone, Chief Climate Resilience Officer, and Nathaly Agosto Filion, Deputy Chief Climate Resilience Officer. Please RSVP if you are interested in attending.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) will host a webinar on July 24 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to discuss the recently effective Inland Flood Protection Rule.

Local Leaders Discuss Climate Resilience

The NJLM Educational Foundation is hosting an inaugural Climate Resilience Roundtable on August 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Warren County Community College.

The Roundtable aims to address critical topics such as hazard mitigation, stormwater management, solar power, and offshore wind energy.

By bringing together municipal leaders and community members, the foundation seeks to inform lasting changes in municipalities’ policies to help safeguard future generations against the escalating environmental crisis. 

The Climate Resilience Roundtable serves as a platform to promote resilience, foster knowledge exchange, and collectively work towards a more sustainable and resilient future. We will provide a list of programs and speakers.

Attendance is free, but registration is required. Please RSVP by August 4

State Survey on Broadband Digital Equity Resources and Programs

Governor Murphy’s office is working with the Board of Public Utilities to put together New Jersey’s Broadband Equity, Access, & Deployment Five-Year Action Plan & is surveying local governments and organizations to better understand available resources.
