The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) announced the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program, a federal initiative that provides funding to improve roadway safety and reduce fatalities. The SS4A grant provides $5 billion over five years to support projects to reduce roadway fatalities and serious injuries; nearly $2 billion is still available for future funding rounds.
Municipalities, Counties, Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), and Tribal governments are eligible to apply for funding that can be used for strategic safety improvements, such as pedestrian-friendly crosswalks, updated traffic signals, and innovative roadway designs. The application deadline is Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 12:00 p.m.
More details can be found on the Federal Grants website.
