Congress Passes Rescissions Bill, President Expected to Sign

Federal Government Posted on July 23, 2025

On Friday before the deadline to pass the bill, the House passed, by a 216–213 vote, the $9 billion rescission legislation of previously approved congressional spending, that was previously amended in the Senate. This package includes cuts to public broadcasting, foreign health programs, and international assistance programs. President Trump is expected to sign the legislation. For more information, please read the League’s recent writeup.

Congress is now focusing on the details of the budget which must be enacted by September 30 to ensure that there is not a lapse in funding and a government shutdown. These negotiations are ongoing, and the League will report as details warrant.
