On Tuesday, August 15, Governor Murphy signed S-3989/A-5675, now P.L.2023, c.136, establishing the Boardwalk Preservation Fund and appropriating $100 million in American Rescue Plan funds for the renovation and repair of boardwalks in shore communities across New Jersey.
Administered by the Division of Disaster Recovery and Mitigation (DRM) within the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA), the Boardwalk Preservation Fund grant program is facilitated using federal funds provided by the American Rescue Plan (ARP).
- Grant applications opened August 15 and must be submitted by October 31, 2023, at 5 p.m. All funds must be obligated by December 31, 2024, and must be expended by the applicant by December 31, 2026.
DCA will be hosting a technical assistance webinar on the grant program on August 29. The League will provide an announcement when more information on the webinar is available.
The goal of the grant is to rebuild outdated and crumbling boardwalk infrastructure, remove blight, and mitigate condemned and/or abandoned properties. Successful applications will also invest in materials that will increase storm resiliency, improve ADA access to boardwalk facilities, and ensure safer and longer lasting infrastructure.
