On June 26, the Assembly Appropriations Committee will consider A-3537/S-2435 was favorably released from the Assembly Appropriations Committee which provides that an individual may be eligible for reimbursement from the Emergency Medical Technician Training Fund for the unreimbursed costs of training and certifying a volunteer EMT and outlines the process for reimbursement.
A volunteer emergency medical technician is defined under the bill as an emergency medical technician who provides basic life support services without receiving compensation in the form of an hourly wage, a salary, or any other form of financial remuneration provided for or in connection with the provision of basic life support services. A volunteer emergency medical technician does not include an individual employed full-time by a general or special hospital.
The League supports this legislation, which already unanimously passed the Senate because it addresses the ongoing issue of expansion and retention for Emergency Medical Technicians by removing a financial barrier to volunteerism.
