The Murphy Administration announced a $35 million grant program to help local governments replace diesel vehicles with electric ones. This funding, from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), aims to protect public health and the environment. Local towns are encouraged to apply for grants to modernize their fleets, with additional incentives for small businesses and towns.
Since 2019, nearly $540 million has been awarded for electric vehicle purchases and infrastructure. The state offers assistance through the New Jersey Fleet Advisor program and supports projects like the Electric School Bus Grant Program and the It Pay$ to Plug In program. New Jersey leads initiatives to electrify freight trucks along the I-95 corridor through the Clean Corridor Coalition.
The grants are on a first-come, first-serve basis.
