Enabling Middle Mile Broadband Infrastructure Program Funding Opportunity
The National Telecommunication and Information Administration (NTIA) announced a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the Enabling Middle Mile Broadband Infrastructure Program. Municipalities are eligible to apply. The program opens on June 21, 2022, and the application process closes on September 30, 2022. Provided for in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Enabling Middle Mile program provides funding for a vital part of the nation's high-speed network. With $1 billion in nationwide funding, the program will reduce the cost of bringing high-speed internet to unserved and underserved communities.
Broadly speaking, this program expands middle-mile infrastructure to reduce the cost of connecting rural and underserved areas and refers to the mid-section of internet infrastructure that carries large amounts of data at high speeds over long distances.
