The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) has announced the availability of $19 million in grants to help municipalities with the transition to new municipal stormwater permitting requirements. Details on the grant program have not been released but will be available on the NJDEP website by March 3.
The announcement comes just days after the League hosted a meeting with the 101 municipalities that were recently reassigned from Tier B to Tier A under the MS4 permitting program. The initial grant of $19 million is welcomed, but it is unlikely to be enough to cover the initial cost of compliance, not to mention any continued costs.
The League is continuing our efforts to review strategies to provide relief from the NJDEP’s mandates. Part of these efforts include outreach to the reassigned municipalities as well as those that have been Tier A but now face additional permit conditions.
