Earlier this week the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) posted announced the New Jersey Historic Trust (the Trust) Preservation Fund grant funding for 2024 is available. The grant funding for this round is Capital, Historic Site Management, Municipal, County and Regional Planning, and Heritage Tourism Planning grants.
Capital preservation grants may be used for construction expenses related to the preservation, restoration, and rehabilitation of a historic property and professional fees necessary to prepare and complete the construction project. All grants require matching grants. Level I grant funding available is $5,000 to $150,000, Level II grant funding available is $150,001 to $750,000, and Level III grant funding available is $500,00 to $750,000.
Historic Site Management grants are available to aid historic property owners and managers to gain better understanding of preservation needs for a site or structure; enhance long-term planning for operations and programs of historic sites; and to broaden public awareness and use of historic sites. Grant funding available is $5,000 to $75,000.
Municipal, County and Regional Planning (MCRP) grants are intended to foster sound strategies and stewardship of New Jersey’s historic properties. Applicants may only make grant requests between $5,000 and $75,000 and would have to fund projects envisioned to develop Local Historic Preservation Ordinances, historic preservation components to a municipal or county Master Plan, preservation design guidelines, and architectural surveys, or Design Guidelines.
Heritage Tourism Planning grants are available to promote site interpretation, create links among sies, assess visitor-readiness, establish performance evaluation systems, and provide training initiatives, workshops and educational activities. Grant funding available is $5,000 to $75,000.
More about this grant as well as application guidelines are available on the Trust’s website or DCA’s webpage. However, we strongly recommend the Grant Guidelines are reviewed first to determine if your proposed project is eligible for funding. You may also contact DCA staff at 609-984-0473 or njht@dca.nj.gov for additional assistance.
Eligible applicants are 501c non-profit organizations and units of county, municipal, or state government.
Properties must be listed or certified eligible for listing on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places by August 1, 2024, to qualify to receive funds.
