The Housing Preservation Grant (HPG) program is now accepting applications from eligible public agencies, municipalities, and qualified nonprofit organizations throughout New Jersey to support home repairs for low-income rural residents. Funding may be used for rehabilitation projects that improve safety, accessibility, and energy efficiency, such as roof replacements, HVAC upgrades, and modifications for seniors or individuals with disabilities.
Applications must be submitted in response to the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) annual notice, which was recently released. Interested municipalities and nonprofits should prepare documentation demonstrating community need, organizational capacity, and alignment with USDA Rural Development standards. The application window is open now, and all preapplications must be received by September 4, 2025.
To be eligible, applicants must be part of rural areas and towns with 20,000 or fewer residents; Funds must be used to assist low- and very-low-income homeowners or renters; and applicants must demonstrate experience in housing repair and rehabilitation.
