AARP has opened the 2026 Community Challenge grant program, offering funding to help communities become more livable through improvements to public spaces, transportation, housing, digital access, and disaster resilience. Applications are due by March 4, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
In its 10th year, AARP has doubled its investment and will award more than $8 million nationwide. The funding will be available across three tracks:
- Flagship Grants (up to $15,000) for local improvements.
- CapacityBuildingMicrogrants ($2,500) paired with expert support for walkability, bikeability, home modifications, and preparedness.
- Demonstration Grants ($10,000–$25,000)to scale projects focused on pedestrian safety, broadband expansion, and housing choice.
- Eligible applicants include local governments. allprojects must be completed by December 15, 2026.
